Troops neutralise terrorist, arrest another, recover AK-47 in Yobe

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised one terrorist, apprehended another and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an intelligence-led operation in Geidam, Yobe State.

In a statement issued by the Army on Monday, it said the operation took place on October 5, 2026, at Abakuradi Village in Geidam Local Government Area, following credible intelligence on the movement of terrorist elements in the area.

According to the statement, troops of 159 Battalion, in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), swiftly mobilised to the location and made contact with the terrorists.

“During the ensuing encounter, troops neutralised one terrorist and apprehended another, while several others fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.

“Exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and one magazine”, the statement added.

It also said troops were currently exploiting the area and pursuing the fleeing terrorists to prevent their regrouping or further criminal activities in the area.

“The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations, rapid troop response and sustained collaboration with local security stakeholders in disrupting terrorist activities”, the Army said.

It reiterated its resolve to sustain operational pressure on terrorists and other criminal elements while working with relevant security agencies and local communities to safeguard lives and restore lasting peace in affected areas.
