Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Troops of Sector 2, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attack by Lakurawa terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack reportedly occurred on Wednesday after the terrorists arrived in large numbers, using more than 100 motorcycles and armed with weapons, including machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs).

The development was disclosed by Bakatsine, a conflict reporter covering security developments in Northwest Nigeria, in a post on X on Thursday.

According to him, the troops engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat, leaving behind 17 motorcycles, several weapons and other equipment.

He wrote: “BREAKING: Yesterday, troops of Sector 2 operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA repelled an attack by Lakurawa terrorists on Forward Operating Base Maiyama in Kebbi State.

“The terrorists reportedly arrived in large numbers, with over 100 motorcycles and weapons including machine guns and RPGs. Troops fought back and forced them to retreat, leaving behind 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47, ammunition and a communication device.

“Troops are continuing patrols and clearance operations in the area to track the fleeing attackers.”

Bakatsine commended the troops for their response, bravery and determination to defend the military base and protect communities in the area.

The reported attack comes amid continued military operations against Lakurawa and other armed groups operating across parts of Northwest Nigeria.

Lakurawa, an armed group operating in parts of Kebbi State and neighbouring areas, has been the target of security operations as troops intensify patrols and clearance missions in the area.
