Tragedy struck in Ibadan on Monday as a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was killed after an articulated truck rammed into multiple vehicles around Agodi Gardens, just behind the government Secretariat.

Several other persons were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries in the incident.

Eyewitnesses explained that the truck had reportedly crushed several vehicles earlier around the Sango area before speeding towards Agodi Gardens.

According to one eyewitness, the driver was allegedly attempting to escape after the initial collisions in the Sango area when the fatal incident occurred.

“The truck driver had reportedly hit several vehicles around Sango before proceeding towards Agodi. The truck eventually hit the motorcycle, killing the corps member, while several other people sustained injuries,” the eyewitness said.

The crash caused heavy traffic gridlock around Sango and Agodi Gardens, forcing motorists to take alternative routes as emergency responders battled to clear the scene.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who arrived at the scene confirmed that the injured victims had been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the deceased corps member and the number of injured persons had not been officially disclosed. It was also unclear if the truck driver had been arrested.

The FRSC said the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
