Two arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers in Bauchi

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing them from carrying out their lawful duties in the state.

The suspects, identified as Friday, whose surname was not disclosed, and Yunana Ali, were arrested on October 3, 2026, along Yelwa Road in Bauchi metropolis.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the suspects were intercepted by operatives attached to the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team during a routine enforcement operation under Operation Velvet.

According to him, the officers requested the suspects to produce their vehicle documents, but they allegedly refused to comply and became hostile towards the patrol team.

Habib said the suspects allegedly physically assaulted the officers during the confrontation, resulting in the uniform of an Inspector of Police being torn.

He said the suspects were subsequently subdued and taken to the ‘E’ Division, where an investigation into the incident had commenced.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged assault, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and an attempt to undermine law enforcement efforts.

Aliyu warned that the command would not tolerate attacks on police officers performing their lawful duties and urged members of the public to use legitimate channels to address grievances.

The suspects, according to the command, would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The police urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with officers during routine checks to prevent actions capable of disrupting public peace.
