Police in Nansana have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping for ransom of a 10-year-old child and theft of a motor vehicle in Wakiso District.

The suspects, identified as Matovu Benard, 20, and Ssemata Christopher, 30, were arrested following a coordinated police operation that led to the recovery of the child and the stolen vehicle, a silver Subaru Impreza registration number UA 229AR.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the incident occurred on October 4, 2026, at about 2:00pm in Senge, Wakiso Sub-County.

Kawala said preliminary investigations indicate that Matovu had earlier been called to a residence in Nansana East 2A at about 9:00am to wash the vehicle.

“After washing the vehicle, he allegedly drove away with it, switched off his mobile phones and proceeded to Senge, where he allegedly abducted the 10-year-old child from the family’s workshop,” Kawala said.

Police allege that Matovu subsequently transported the child to Nsumbi Village in Kyebando, where a ransom of Shs20 million was demanded for the child’s release.

According to police, the suspect also provided a bank account through which the ransom was to be paid.

Following investigations and a coordinated follow-up operation, police recovered both the child and the stolen motor vehicle.

Kawala said the two suspects were rescued from a mob and subsequently taken into police custody.

“They are currently in police custody, assisting police with investigations into the alleged kidnapping, ransom demand and theft of the motor vehicle,” she said.

Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
