Watchdog Uganda about 2 hours 2 mins read

Police in Gulu City have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old Gulu University student whose body was discovered by the roadside earlier this month.

The suspects have been identified as Omara Gerald, alias Torach, and Rom Ambrose, alias Geng, both aged 18 and residents of Agwee Cell, Agwee Ward, Pece-Laroo Division, Gulu City.

According to a police statement, the victim, Ocen John Bosco Ngire, a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree, majoring in Literature at Gulu University, was allegedly murdered on the night of October 10, 2026, by unknown assailants.

His body was later discovered by the roadside in Agwee Cell, Pece-Laroo Division.

Police said the arrests followed investigations and intelligence-led operations conducted by the territorial police in Aswa West Region, in collaboration with other security agencies.

During the investigations, the suspects reportedly gave accounts of how the murder was allegedly committed and led investigators to the scene of the crime.

Police said several exhibits believed to be of evidential value were recovered, including a pair of shoes belonging to the deceased and a hammer suspected to have been used to strike him on the head.

“The suspects provided accounts of how the murder was allegedly carried out and led the security team to the scene of the crime,” the statement said.

Police added that investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing and gather additional evidence.

The arrest of the two suspects marks a significant step in the investigation, although their alleged involvement remains subject to the ongoing investigations and the judicial process.
