Two people have been killed in separate stabbing incidents following a violent clash between youths in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The Bauchi Police Command said the incident occurred on Friday, September 4, 2026, after a 29-year-old tricycle rider, Abdulrahman Nuru, was attacked in the Tudun Wus area of Dass.
The command said Nuru, who was from the Bundot area, was intercepted and allegedly attacked with cutlasses by a group led by Ibrahim El-Safwan, popularly known as Jabala’i, of Bayan Fada.
According to a statement issued by the spokesman of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, Nuru was rushed to the General Hospital, Dass, after sustaining multiple injuries but was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
The killing reportedly sparked tension as youths from Bundot mobilised and moved to Bayan Fada in what the police described as a reprisal attack.
The command said the two groups later engaged in a violent confrontation at an open space near the Dass Central Motor Park, during which 38-year-old Mukhtar Jibrin of Bayan Fada was stabbed.
Jibrin was taken to the General Hospital, Dass, and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, police operatives attached to the Dass Division moved in to restore calm and arrested seven suspects, including 20-year-old Umar Abubakar, whom the command identified as the principal suspect.
Other suspects arrested were Blus Garba, 19; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17; Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18.
The statement disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had ordered a discreet and thorough investigation while efforts continued to arrest other suspects still at large.
The CP condemned the killings, urging residents of Dass to remain calm and law-abiding, adding that nobody should take the law into their own hands as the command works to ensure justice.
