Two Nigerians to face trial in Ghana over alleged murder of compatriot

Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

Two Nigerian nationals are expected to face prosecution in Ghana over the alleged murder of a fellow Nigerian, who investigators say was killed following a dispute over proceeds from suspected internet fraud activities.

The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command after the body of Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, 36, was discovered in his apartment at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale.

According to a statement by the Ghana Police Service, officers launched an investigation after receiving a report that the victim had been found lying in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.

Preliminary findings revealed that the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects, and another Nigerian, Godwin Nwafor.

Crime scene investigators found the victim with a deep cut to his forehead and a towel forced into his mouth, while the room showed signs of having been ransacked. A wooden pestle, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered alongside other exhibits for forensic examination.

The victim was taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead. His body was subsequently deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy.

Police said intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the two suspects later the same day in Tatale as they allegedly attempted to flee through the Ghana-Togo border.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring to kill the victim, claiming he had withheld money generated from their suspected internet fraud operations.

A subsequent search reportedly led to the recovery of several items believed to have been taken from the victim’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, wristwatches, clothing, personal documents and other valuables.

The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service said it is committed to ensuring that everyone connected to the alleged crime is brought to justice and appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
