Two suspects have been sentenced by a Magistrate’s court for an alleged vandalism of critical national assets in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area.
DAILY POST reports that the duo were sentenced by a magistrate’s court sitting in Okpella and presided over by P.U. Abu.
The conviction followed a suit filed by the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, against the convicts.
Speaking on the conviction, Efosa Ogbebor, Public Relations Officer of the command, said the sentence underscored the command’s intensified crackdown on economic sabotage and its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.
Ogbebor said five suspects were earlier arraigned before the court over the vandalism of critical national assets in the locality.
He said two of the suspects were convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment each, while the remaining three were still in custody pending further judicial proceedings.
“These outcomes reflect the command’s unwavering commitment towards safeguarding government infrastructure and protecting national economic interests,” he said.
