UCL: Bellingham rewrites Champions League record held since Casillas era

Daily Post about 5 hours 1 mins read

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham on Wednesday became the youngest player in Champions League history to reach 60 appearances.

Bellingham started Real Madrid’s 3-2 league-phase match win against AEK Athens aged 23 years and 128 days.

He eclipsed former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas’s long-standing benchmark by 39 days.

Casillas was 23 years and 167 days old when he reached 60, rewriting a record that had stood for more than two decades.

It is the second Casillas appearance record Bellingham has taken, having become the youngest player to reach 50 games last November.

The England international's appearance against AEK Athens on Wednesday makes him the youngest player ever to reach 60 Champions League games, overtaking Casillas.
