Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone has spoken about Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman’s performance following his goal against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Nigeria international ended his goal drought during Tuesday evening’s victory over Manchester United.
The goal ended a run of six consecutive matches without scoring, as the former Atalanta forward reacted quickest to convert the rebound after Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens parried a shot from Jonathan Davies.
Following the match, Simeone described Lookman as an exceptionally valuable player, highlighting his impressive statistics, goal-scoring ability and effectiveness in one-on-one situations.
“He’s a very important player, possessing notably strong statistics, demonstrating consistent goal-scoring capability, and performing effectively in one-on-one confrontations,” Simeone told reporters after the game.
The Argentine tactician further acknowledged that the forward was still working towards consistently showcasing his full potential.
“He has not yet reached the stage where this manifests consistently. However, he has regained his scoring proficiency, demonstrated the instinct to follow the play, and the rebound proved advantageous. We secured the victory that was necessary,” he added.
Lookman, who came on in the second half of the match, has endured a challenging start to the season, scoring just one goal across all competitions before the encounter with the Red Devils.
The Super Eagles forward will be eager to build on his goal against Manchester United and rediscover his best form as he seeks to make a greater contribution to the Spanish club.
