KAMPALA | WATCHDOG UGANDA — The Uganda Chamber of Energy and Minerals (UCEM) is set to host the 15th Annual Mineral Wealth Conference & Expo from September 29–30, 2026, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, positioning Uganda at the center of continental discussions on unlocking mineral wealth for sustainable development.

Held under the theme “Beneath the Surface: Unlocking Africa’s Next Mining Powerhouse” and under the patronage of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the two-day flagship event is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD).

The conference is expected to convene over 1,500 delegates, 50 expert speakers, 55 exhibitors, more than 15 energy and mining ministers, and hundreds of global corporate executives.

Unlocking High-Value Growth The high-level gathering will focus on translating Uganda’s vast mineral potential into long-term economic growth through strengthened governance, investment attraction, local value addition, and responsible environmental practices.

Key agenda items include:

  • Regulatory Frameworks: Mineral sector governance, licensing, and legal protections for investors.

  • Critical Minerals: Unlocking energy-transition minerals for sustainable development.

  • Industry Resilience: Climate change strategies within the extractive sector and sustainable financing.

  • Inclusive Growth: Solutions for artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) challenges.

  • Technology & Innovation: Emerging tech and next-generation mining solutions.

High-Profile Lineup The confirmed speaker lineup includes key sector leaders such as Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza, Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation; Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, Minister for Energy and Mineral Development; Mr. Vusi Mabena, Executive Secretary of the Mining Industry Association of Southern Africa (MIASA); and legal expert Dr. Abdoul Camara.

Early corporate sponsors include Crown Beverages Limited (CBL Pepsi Uganda), alongside Bronze Sponsors Tororo Cement and WTW, with additional partners expected to join ahead of the September gathering.

A Gateway for Investment UCEM Chief Executive Officer Humphrey Asiimwe highlighted the conference as a strategic platform bridging the gap between policymakers, international financiers, mining conglomerates, and innovators.

“The minerals are here. The opportunity lies in unlocking their full value for industrialization,” the Chamber noted in a statement, encouraging early registration for regional and international stakeholders.

Conference Highlights & Registration The two-day event will feature main-stage keynotes, dedicated government and young innovators’ tracks, industry-led executive roundtables, structured networking sessions, and an invitation-only Gala Dinner. An interactive expo floor will allow companies to display cutting-edge technologies and services.

As Uganda ramps up policies to enforce domestic mineral processing over raw exports, the 15th Mineral Wealth Conference stands to serve as a major catalyst in transforming the nation into Africa’s next mining hub.

Registration and exhibition booth bookings are now open via the official event portal at mwc.ucem.ug.
