The British High Commission in Nigeria has commended Lloyd’s Register for its continued commitment to developing the next generation of Nigerian leaders through its partnership with the UK Government’s prestigious Chevening Scholarship Programme.

Through this partnership, outstanding Nigerian professionals pursuing maritime-related studies have the opportunity to undertake fully funded master’s degrees at leading UK universities.

As one of Chevening’s valued global partners, Lloyd’s Register, a leading provider of engineering, technology and professional services for the maritime sector, sponsors Chevening Scholarships for candidates from Nigeria and other African countries whose studies align with the maritime industry.

Speaking on the importance of the partnership, British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Jonny Baxter, said that the partnership promotes investing in future leaders who will strengthen growth across the industry

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Lloyd’s Register to support outstanding Nigerians with the potential to lead and drive positive change in the maritime sector,” he said.

“Together, we are investing in future leaders who will strengthen innovation, sustainability, and growth across the industry.

Baxter said that Nigeria’s maritime sector is vital to trade and economic development, and this partnership helps equip emerging leaders with the skills and networks needed to shape its future.

“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Lloyd’s Register and celebrating the achievements of Chevening Scholars as they make a lasting impact in Nigeria and beyond,” he added.

The Business Director – Africa, Lloyd’s Register, Goz Gwam, expressed the commitment of the organisation to developing the next generation of maritime leaders.

“We are proud of our partnership with Chevening, which helps us connect with talented individuals whose aspirations support key areas of national development,” Gwam said. “Together, we are committed to developing the next generation of maritime leaders who will drive Nigeria’s and Africa’s growth as well as further strengthen UK–Nigeria relations.”
