KAMPALA  — The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) has appointed renowned public relations and communications specialist Jonan Kiiza as its official spokesperson.

Kiiza, a prominent voice in Uganda’s strategic communications landscape, came into national prominence in 2025 following the transition of electricity distribution to the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL). During this period, he became a household name across the country, widely recognized for his aggressive media strategy, rapid crisis response, and unique ability to simplify complex technical topics for the general public.

Speaking on his new role, Kiiza outlined his primary strategy to reposition the Council within Uganda’s national agenda.

“My immediate task is to elevate UNCST’s profile and position it as a leading national centre for science, technology, and innovation, while ensuring that its work is better understood and firmly connected to Uganda’s socioeconomic transformation agenda,” said Kiiza.

UNCST operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MoSTI). Established in 1990 under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, UNCST was created as the pioneer government agency mandated to advance and execute the country’s national vision for science and technology development.

With his proven track record in high-stakes public communications, Kiiza’s appointment is expected to significantly boost the agency’s visibility and deepen public engagement with scientific innovations across Uganda.
