An Atiku Abubakar-linked United States lobbying firm, Von Batten Montague York-LC, has said that the proposed meeting between President Bola Tinubu and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly has been cancelled.
The comment comes after the Presidency confirmed that Tinubu will not be physically present at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.
The firm, in a post on X on Monday, claimed that Tinubu’s planned attendance at the UN General Assembly and any potential endorsement of his 2027 presidential bid by Trump were also no longer certain.
The firm alleged that Tinubu’s major objective was to meet Trump and secure his endorsement ahead of the Nigerian presidential election.
“By the grace of Almighty God, and only by His grace, President Tinubu’s heavily lobbied UN meeting with President Trump is dead,” the firm said.
It further stated that any endorsement of Tinubu in the upcoming Nigerian presidential election was also “dead”.
The US firm also alleged that about $9 million in Nigerian taxpayers’ money had been spent on efforts to facilitate the meeting.
“President Tinubu’s central objective was to meet with President Trump and secure his endorsement for the upcoming Nigerian presidential election,” it said.
