The Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division, Brig Gen Michael Walaka Hyeroba, has urged officers undergoing the Platoon Commanders Course Intake 18/26 to uphold discipline, maintain physical fitness and lead from the front.
Brig Gen Hyeroba delivered the guidance while assessing the officers during a field exercise, code-named Exercise Storm Karamoja.
“A platoon is where leadership is tested. Your men will look to you when they are tired, hungry and under fire,” he said.
The Division Operations and Training Officer and Exercise Director, Colonel Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye, said that the exercise assessed the officers’ combat readiness and ability to make decisions under pressure.
Representing the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine, Col Mike Katongole Ssempija commended the instructors and trainees, stressing the importance of continuous professional development across the force.
The course aims to equip junior officers with the skills to command platoons effectively in the pacification and disarmament operations in Karamoja and along the Uganda-Kenya border.
