UPDF 3 Division Launches Political Education Course For Troops

Watchdog Uganda about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division, Brig Gen Michael Walaka Hyeroba, has launched a week-long Political Education and Political Commissars Course for troops at the Division Headquarters in Moroto.

The training is being conducted by the Political Education and Ideology Caravan from the Joint Staff Political Commissariat.

Brig Gen Hyeroba urged the trainees to take the course seriously and apply the knowledge gained in their day-to-day military duties.

“I ask you to be positive in all that you are being tasked to do during this training. Whatever you are taught here is not for classroom purposes; it is applicable in the military line of duty,” Brig Gen Hyeroba said.

He emphasised that discipline remains non-negotiable in the military, describing a disciplined soldier as loyal, self-driven and dependable.

“I implore all of us to be disciplined soldiers, keep in line with rules and regulations as a guiding principle to enable you to act professionally,” he said.

The team is led by the Director of Political Education at Land Forces, Col Anoatoli Macwantw Nuwagira. Other facilitators include Lt Col Simon Peter Kulumba, Head of Political Education at the Joint Staff Chieftaincy of Political Education and Coordinator of Presidential Skilling Hubs, and Maj Ronald Rwehuta Murwani, Head of Psychosocial Support.

The launch was attended by the Deputy Division Commander, Col Winston Mugarura; Brigade Commanders; Division Operations and Training Officer, Col Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye; Commanding and Battalion Commanders; heads of departments; and senior and junior officers and militants.
