UPDF Wazalendo SACCO Trains Central Region Branch Managers And Delegates In Enterprise Management

Watchdog Uganda about 2 hours 2 mins read

Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO) has trained branch managers and delegates from the central region in enterprise selection and management as part of efforts to promote financial preparedness and sustainable livelihoods during and after military service.

The two-day training, held at Land Force Headquarters in Bombo, was conducted under the theme, “Preparing for Retirement Through Smart Enterprise Selection and Management.” It equipped participants with practical knowledge on identifying, establishing and managing sustainable income-generating enterprises.

Wazalendo SACCO Vice Chairman Brig Gen Peter Gaetano Omola encouraged participants to consider viable ventures such as coffee farming, poultry and piggery, emphasising the importance of preparing for retirement early.

Brig Gen Omola urged the participants to put the knowledge acquired into practice rather than treating the programme as merely an observation exercise. He also encouraged them to share the knowledge with other UPDF personnel in their respective units to broaden the impact of the training.

The programme included practical sessions led by experienced farmers and agricultural experts from Luwero and other parts of Uganda. Coffee expert Mr Mumbere Hosea shared knowledge on coffee varieties, plantation establishment and management.
Participants also visited successful agricultural enterprises in Bombo and Luwero, where they gained practical insights into coffee farming, poultry and piggery.

The farmers encouraged SACCO members to start small, remain committed, and gradually expand their enterprises as they gain experience and income.

The training brought together Wazalendo SACCO branch managers, senior and junior officers, delegates, farmers, and agricultural experts.
