Urban Ratib takes African entertainment influence to digital revolution as QR ambassador

KAMPALA, UGANDA — Smiling from ear to ear as he celebrates his latest achievement with QR Revolution, Urban Ratib cuts the image of a man whose influence goes beyond the entertainment industry.

One by one, the name Urban Ratib has become familiar in the circles of Africa’s entertainment industry. He is known for his social connections, communal spirit and belief in Ubuntu — the African philosophy of living together, supporting one another and uplifting people irrespective of their humble backgrounds.

At his socialite offices in Munyonyo, photographs of African and international singers, alongside medals and awards won in the entertainment industry locally and internationally, tell a story of relationships, recognition and years of engagement with the creative industry.

At Nomad, where he organises most of his events and shows, the entertainment atmosphere is equally evident. The venue reflects his passion for bringing people together through music, creativity and social interaction.

Yet, beyond the photographs, awards and entertainment connections, Ratib comes across as a soft-spoken, down-to-earth personality with a passion for nature, literature, African tourism and the arts.

“It is my dream to give back to the community,” Ratib says.

It is a philosophy that appears to shape his approach to life and his growing involvement in community initiatives.

His latest achievement, however, takes him into another field: digital transformation.

Ratib is the brand-new ambassador for QR Revolution, a digital business platform seeking to connect entrepreneurs, businesses and customers through technology.

His ambassadorial appointment comes at a time when businesses are increasingly exploring digital solutions to improve visibility, reach customers and manage their operations.

Through QR Revolution, Ratib is expected to encourage entrepreneurs, service providers and other business operators to embrace digital platforms as an avenue for business growth.

The platform promotes an all-in-one QR business solution under the message, “Connect. Engage. Grow.”

It is designed to enable businesses to market products, sell services, receive orders, obtain customer feedback and manage their activities through a single dashboard.

The campaign presents digital business connectivity as an opportunity to reach approximately 45 million people in Uganda and billions more across the world.

Ratib has personally endorsed the platform with the message: “I use QR Revolution to run my business. You too can.”

For him, the ambassadorial responsibility offers an opportunity to connect his influence in the entertainment industry with the wider business community, particularly entrepreneurs seeking new ways to promote their products and services.

His appointment also brings into focus the growing relationship between entertainment, technology and enterprise. Artists, event organisers and business owners increasingly depend on digital platforms to communicate with audiences, promote events and reach potential customers.

Ratib’s experience in organising entertainment events provides a practical connection to this changing business environment.

However, his interest in community development remains an important part of his public identity.

Recently, he joined celebrated Ugandan singer Lydia Jasmine and the Socialite Association in Uganda, led by its president, Edison Kirabira, in mobilising support for a charity drive targeting disadvantaged children and families in Katanga, Kampala.

The initiative seeks to bring together entertainers, socialites, entrepreneurs and well-wishers to share food, fellowship and practical assistance with vulnerable members of the community.

Ratib said the organisers intend to make the outreach practical by sharing meals with residents and providing grooming services to people who cannot afford them.

“We are going to give back to the people, eating with them, cutting hair for those who can’t afford and we shall move with hair machines, food and others,” he said.

Lydia Jasmine, who joined the initiative, described the charity activity as an opportunity to appreciate the support she had received from her fans and the public following her recent concert.

“I am happy because Urban Ratib is my friend and this is just a good idea to give back to the community,” she said.

Kirabira also appealed to members of the public to participate in the outreach and support disadvantaged children and families in Katanga.

The initiative reflects Ratib’s belief that public influence should not only be measured by entertainment connections, awards or business achievements, but also by the willingness to support others.

His new role with QR Revolution therefore introduces another dimension to his public engagement. While his entertainment connections have helped him build relationships across different circles, digital advocacy offers an opportunity to encourage businesses to explore technology and expand their reach.

For Ratib, the message is about connecting people, creating opportunities and ensuring that progress does not leave the community behind.

Whether through entertainment, business or charity, his philosophy remains rooted in togetherness, a belief that success becomes more meaningful when it creates opportunities for others.
