Over 2,500 students were awarded certificates, diplomas, and degrees as Victoria University (VU) marked its 10th graduation ceremony at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo on October 19–20, 2026.
Held under the theme “The Future Is Here,” the two-day event drew parents, university leaders, and employers to celebrate a decade of growth and hands-on learning.
Graduands from the Faculties of Science and Technology, Health Sciences, Business and Management, and Humanities and Social Sciences walked the stage—bringing this year’s graduating class to roughly 2,600.
High Employability & Tech Focus
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga highlighted the university’s focus on practical education built for an AI-driven job market.
According to Dr. Muganga, about 89% of the graduating class have already secured jobs or work placements—up from 87.2% last year. He added that more than half of the graduands completed science and technology programs.
VU’s training model combines classroom lessons with hands-on placements, leveraging its position within the Ruparelia Group ecosystem. The university also offers free AI training and digital tools to help students adapt quickly to modern workplaces.
Ranked Second Nationally
The graduation comes days after the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) released its revised university rankings.
Victoria University ranked second nationwide with 87.4 points—placing it in the “Leading” performance category, just behind Makerere University (88.9) and ahead of Kampala International University.
The NCHE evaluation praised VU for:
– Student population growth: Over 14,113 students across 66 accredited programs.
-Gender parity: A near 50-50 balance across disciplines.
– STEM uptake: High enrollment in science and technology courses, particularly among female students.
Rapid Growth Under Ruparelia Group
The milestone reflects a major shift for the institution since Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia’s Ruparelia Group acquired it in 2013, relocating operations to Victoria Towers on Jinja Road. VU was granted its full charter in 2022.
Under Dr. Muganga, Vice Chancellor since 2020, the university has championed digital transformation and “Authentic Learning”—a teaching approach that emphasizes practical skills over traditional exam memorization.
Recent developments include:
– 2025–2030 Strategic Plan: Launched by Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia to position VU as East Africa’s top tech-driven university.
– Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Scholarships: 100 fully funded master’s scholarships established in memory of the late Rajiv Ruparelia.
– New Naguru Campus: Unveiled plans for a modern campus in Naguru, expected to feature a teaching hospital to support a new medical school.
For Watchdog Uganda, the two-day celebration signals more than just degrees handed out—it marks Victoria University’s firm transition into one of the country’s leading higher education institutions.
