Viral video on poor education funding doctored- Kebbi NUT

Daily Post about 4 hours 1 mins read

The Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has dismissed a viral video alleging poor education funding and inadequate remuneration of teachers in the state.

The state NUT Chairman, Zaki Sarki, said in a statement on Monday that the video was old, edited and doctored to create a misleading impression about the state’s education sector.

Sarki said the claims contained in the video were misleading and did not reflect recent developments in teachers’ welfare and education infrastructure in the state.

He said the state government had increased teachers’ minimum wage to N75,000 and cited the construction of schools and classrooms, recruitment of teachers and provision of learning materials as other interventions in the sector.

Sarki said the union rejected the video and urged members of the public to verify information before drawing conclusions about the state’s education sector.

The NUT chairman also said the union would continue to engage with the government on issues affecting teachers and work towards improving education in the state.
