Vote for NDC is vote to kill APGA — Opara

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has warned its members against supporting the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), saying any vote for the opposition party would amount to a vote against APGA.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, stated this in a statement on recent political developments which, he said, required clarity and guidance for APGA members.

Opara specifically criticised the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alleging that he had worked against APGA in successive electoral cycles.

“For every seat APGA is contesting, why does Mr Peter Obi have a lineup of candidates waiting to push APGA away? APGA made Peter Obi, yet Peter Obi wants to destroy APGA,” he said.

Opara alleged that Obi had sought to weaken APGA since 2014, saying the former governor of Anambra State supported opposition forces against the party during previous elections.

“Since 2014, Mr Peter Obi has had one mission — to destroy the party that made him. In 2025, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stood with APGA, Peter Obi backed the opposition to bury us. Just like he did in 2017 and 2021,” he said.

The APGA spokesman also denied any formal or informal agreement between APGA and the NDC on power-sharing.

“There is no formal or informal consultation or agreement between APGA and NDC for power-sharing. As of today, the NDC is merely a Special Purpose Vehicle, while APGA is a Political Party of Record,” he said.

Opara said APGA’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not based solely on an unwritten convention of collaborating with the party at the centre.

He said the support was also based on what he described as Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development in the Southeast.

“APGA’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not only predicated on the unwritten convention that the party collaborates with the party at the centre.

“It is more fundamentally anchored on the fact that President Tinubu has demonstrated utmost good faith in the infrastructural development of the Southeast, more than any other government since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. This is absolutely factual and verifiable,” he said.

Opara urged APGA members not to be persuaded by what he described as Obi’s abandonment of the party, alleging that he had continued to treat political parties as “Special Purpose Vehicles” to be used and abandoned.
