…as Akwanga chairman praises INEC
By Edwin Philip, Lafia
The senatorial bye-election for Nasarawa North Senatorial District has commenced, with electoral materials arriving as early as 8 am.
Commenting on the process, the chairman of Akwanga LGA, Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha, who voted at Konfar Sarkin 003, said he voted at about 8:32 am.
Andaha commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their punctuality and organisation of the process and asked them to keep it up.
He said, “I have voted exactly at 8:32. I want to commend INEC this time around for a wonderful organisation; the first time they stood by the punctuality of the time, we were before 8:30. By 8:30, voting had commenced. The process so far is good. This time around, INEC did a wonderful job in collaboration with the security agencies; that is what they have been doing across our local government and the electoral ward.”
Andaha, who is also the Chairman of the Association of Local Government in Nigeria (ALGON) Nasarawa State chapter, said he is impressed by the process, which is orderly across his LGA.
“Indeed, you can see it for yourself; every polling unit’s voting is ongoing now, and I want to tell you that voting is smooth and there is credibility.
Reacting to the low voter turnout, he said, “Like I said, we are just commencing. You know, our people, with their agitational nature, they are always waiting for the commencement of the process. I want to believe that you have seen what is happening now and people are coming out to ensure that they vote for a political party of their choice.”
“For INEC I want them to keep up this tempo; around the 2027 election I believe they will continue to keep it up.’
He, however, calls on the people to continue to be law-abiding and conduct themselves in an orderly manner; the youth should always be obedient to the constituted authority and not allow themselves to be used by any agents of destruction.
At Ningo Sembe, polling 008 units in Ningo Bohar Ward, voting commenced at about 9am, where a PDP stalwart and senatorial candidate for the 2027 election, Hon. Benbella Anthony Madaki, commended INEC for timeliness and management of the process, as well as the peaceful conduct of the people.
He, however, called for that the process should be replicated across the three local government areas of Wamba, Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon, where the by-election is taking place.
