WAEC Confirms Suleiman Kum As New Nigeria Head

InformationNG about 4 hours 2 mins read

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has appointed 56-year-old Suleiman Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office.

Kum succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026, before he assumed office as WAEC’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.

The appointment was officially announced by WAEC Nigeria on Sunday, confirming an earlier report that Kum had emerged as the new HNO.

According to the council, Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and has held several senior positions during his 28-year career.

WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, described him as “a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive.”

The council said Kum pioneered Variable Data Printing and enhanced code-security features in security printing, while also introducing facial-recognition biometric devices to replace council-wide attendance systems.

He also played a key role in the delivery of Achievement Tests through computer-based examination mode.

WAEC said Kum has extensive experience in test development, examination administration, security and branch management.

He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria and is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at NOUN.

Kum, who hails from Plateau State, has served in several WAEC offices, including Awka, Yola, Makurdi, Gusau, Kano, Port Harcourt and Ikeja.

The council said his career has been marked by “integrity, diligence, innovation and a strong commitment to service”, with several commendations and awards received within and outside WAEC.
