If you bought a ticket to watch Omotola Jalade–Ekeinde’s film, Mother’s Love, or if you’ve ever wondered how films do in the cinemas, you might want to grab some popcorn for this one as Omotola doesn’t hold back in sharing how “Mother’s Love” did at the cinema. Serving as her directorial debut feature, the family drama released nationwide on 6 March 2026 stars Omotola alongside Noray Nehita, Ifeanyi Kalu, Olumide Oworu, Lilian Afegbai, and Nosa Rex.
The story centers on a sheltered young woman, Adebisi (Noray Nehita), who steps out into the world during her NYSC service year. Excited for freedom away from her family’s strict dynamic, she forms new friendships that push her to find her own voice. Meanwhile, her mother Labake (Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde) must navigate the fine line between her protective instincts and allowing her daughter to build an independent life.

Reflecting on the theatrical journey, Omotola took to her channel to walk viewers through the final numbers. During its run, Mother’s Love generated ₦103,094,663 at the box office before wrapping up on 19 April 2026. “Our last cinema run was actually on the 19th of April,” she recalled. “What a beautiful day it was… We ended at the cinema in ICM Ikeja. Thank you so much to the manager of that cinema who always welcomed us with warm hugs. We had a nice time at the cinema. It was my first time ever doing cinema runs, and it was a challenge, but I rose to the challenge, I believe.”
She also addressed why the theatrical window ended when it did. “Unfortunately, that week, I had to pull the movie out of the cinemas because I had pressing issues I had to travel back to go attend to,” she explained. “When your movie is in the cinema, you have to promote, promote, promote, and show up… I knew that I would do the movie a disservice if I left it in the cinemas and I would not have the time to promote it or to be there in the cinema, as the culture was, or is at this time, to meet with fans.”

Providing full transparency on the numbers, she detailed the remaining funds after accounting for exhibitors, distributors, print and advertising, Value Added Tax (VAT), entertainment tax, and withholding tax. “All deductions and everything else from cinemas, the money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was 22,276,558.”
Following through on her commitment, 100 per cent of those net producer earnings went to the educational NGO Slum to School Africa. Distribution partners Nile Entertainment officially transferred the ₦22,276,558 sum on 7 July 2026 to support children across underserved communities.
