AKURE — Wesley University, Ondo, has expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of new programmes in health sciences, engineering, management, social sciences and other professional fields.
The expansion is part of efforts by the institution to reposition itself to take advantage of emerging opportunities in education, technology and healthcare.
A major highlight is the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering, which is scheduled to commence academic activities in September 2026.
The faculty will offer programmes in Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.
The university said the new engineering programmes would broaden career opportunities for students in technology and innovation while strengthening its capacity to produce skilled manpower.
Wesley University has also expanded its health sciences programmes. The offerings include Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, Optometry, Health Information Management, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Community Health and Public Health.
According to the university, the expansion is aimed at responding to changing societal needs and equipping students with relevant professional and academic skills.
The institution, under the leadership of its Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Revd. Prof. Samuel Sunday Obeka, said it was also strengthening programmes in other disciplines.
These include Computer Science, Accounting, Business Administration, International Relations and Law.
Postgraduate education has equally been expanded, with the university offering Postgraduate Diploma, MBA, MPA, M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees across various disciplines.
The academic expansion is being complemented by infrastructural development, including improved classrooms, hostels, laboratories and specialised academic buildings.
New facilities include a purpose-built Law Building and an Anatomy Laboratory designed to support practical teaching, research and professional training.
The university’s Ecumenical Centre has also been renovated to provide a venue for academic, spiritual and institutional activities.
With the planned commencement of its engineering programmes in September 2026, Wesley University said it was set to further widen its academic portfolio and provide more opportunities for prospective students in emerging and professionally relevant fields.
