Police operatives have located the suspected camp of the abductors who kidnapped NYSC members, but have delayed moving into the area after intelligence indicated that the location was heavily mined with improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The police said operatives spent the previous day in the bush tracking the abductors until they were able to establish their location using coordinates.

“Yesterday we were in the bush, we trailed them out to a particular location but at that point in time we couldn’t move in to where the coordinate showed us where they are,” the police official said.

He explained that the coordinates were repeatedly checked before they eventually confirmed the exact location of the camp.

However, the presence of IEDs has made it difficult for the operatives to immediately enter the area.

“But predicament is that with the intel we have, the IEDs — the camp is mined with IEDs,” he said.

The official added that the police were preparing to deploy bulldozers and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) as part of efforts to safely access the camp and rescue the victims.

“We are moving with bulldozers and APCs to see how we are going to rescue these victims on time,” he said.
