Jose Mourinho has openly discussed his infamous altercation with former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro in his latest Netflix docu-series.
The Real Madrid manager was involved in the incident back in 2015, during his second tenure with the Premier League club.
Mourinho declined to apologize to Carneiro, even after 11 years since their confrontation, as she found his comments to be profoundly offensive.
He clarified that he did not intend to be sexist with his remarks, emphasizing that such moments of heated exchanges are commonplace in football and should not be overly dramatized.
“To me, a female doctor is equivalent to a male doctor. Therefore, I express my feelings vocally when I am dissatisfied. There are certain words used in moments of extreme tension.
“Typically, individuals with a football culture, football DNA, and football background can move past it in an instant. However, in this instance, it was different,” he stated (via Daily Mail).
The incident occurred at the beginning of the troubled 2015-16 season, following Chelsea’s Premier League victory in the previous season.
The Blues faced Swansea City and had already received a red card for Thibaut Courtois. Eden Hazard fell after a challenge, prompting team doctor Carneiro to rush onto the field alongside physio Jon Fearn to provide treatment.
Upon witnessing their entry onto the pitch, Mourinho became furious, as he realized that Hazard would need to leave the field temporarily, resulting in only nine players remaining for his team.
Carneiro alleged that he discriminated against her based on her gender as he unleashed a verbal attack, referring to her as the ‘daughter of a wh*re’.
Following the match, Chelsea removed Carneiro from her first-team responsibilities, and she ultimately departed from the club a month later. She received a settlement from the club after pursuing a tribunal case, alleging discrimination by the manager and her subsequent dismissal.
