Wike, Chinda Meet With Fubara, Supporters To Strengthen Reconciliation Efforts

Channels TV about 2 hours 2 mins read

Efforts to consolidate the political reconciliation in Rivers State have received a fresh boost, as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda, and their supporters met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of his political camp in Port Harcourt.

The closed-door meeting, which lasted for about four hours, brought together key figures and supporters from both sides.

It was the first known occasion Governor Fubara hosted or personally participated in a reconciliation meeting with his supporters, marking a significant development in the efforts to consolidate the emerging political rapprochement in the state.

The engagement follows years of political disagreements that created deep divisions among political actors and supporters, including the prolonged dispute between the Governor and the Rivers State House of Assembly.

With tensions now significantly reduced, the latest meeting is being seen as part of efforts to move beyond the differences of the past and build a more coordinated political relationship among the various interests.

Wike and Chinda arrived at the Governor’s residence in Port Harcourt with their supporters at about 4 pm, joining Governor Fubara and his supporters for the discussions

However, both sides maintained silence after the meeting at bout 8pm.

Neither Wike, Chinda, nor their supporters nor Governor Fubara nor his team addressed journalists after the four-hour engagement, leaving the specific details and outcome of the discussions undisclosed.

Despite the absence of public statements, the meeting itself signals continued engagement between the two camps and a willingness to deepen the reconciliation process.

As Rivers State moves towards the 2027 general elections, the ability of the political actors to sustain the emerging rapprochement could shape the state’s political landscape and determine whether the current peace develops into a more enduring political understanding.

For now, the four-hour meeting represents another step in the ongoing effort to strengthen reconciliation and maintain political stability in Rivers State.
