A disturbing case has shaken Touba. Ndèye Amy Dione, 29, married and a mother of two, died shortly after claiming she had been the victim of suspected poisoning.
According to reports in Libération newspaper, the young woman, originally from Thiès, had travelled to Touba with her husband for the Magal on Sunday, visiting her in-laws. Upon arrival, she was in good health. However, the following day, her condition deteriorated rapidly. She reportedly began suffering from severe stomach pains before vomiting and being rushed to a medical facility.
Despite the care she received, Ndèye Amy Dione ultimately succumbed to her illness. On her hospital bed, before passing away, she reportedly stated that she had been poisoned and accused a member of her in-laws’ family.
According to her statements as reported by the newspaper, this person had a financial dispute with her husband and suspected her of being the cause of their conflict. The Touba gendarmerie has opened an investigation. Several family members have already been questioned by investigators. The body of the deceased has been transferred to Dakar for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and guide the ongoing investigation.
