The Police Command in Cross River says it has begun investigation on the case suspected of homicide involving an unidentified female guest at a hotel in Calabar.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Sunday Eitokpah, who disclosed this in a statement in Calabar said that the incident occurred along Clifford Street, Calabar metropolis.
Eitokpah said the incident was reported to the command on Tuesday director of the hotel who was accompanied by the manager, and the receptionist on duty.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that an unidentified male guest lodged at the hotel with a lady whose identity had yet to be established.
“The male guest was not properly documented at the point of admission into the hotel.
The police image maker said that a receptionist on duty discovered that the room occupied by the guests was open.
“When the room was accessed, the female guest was found lying unresponsive on the bed,” he said.
Eitokpah said that police investigators who visited the scene observed apparent marks of violence on the lady’s face and neck.
He said that the lady was taken to a Hospital where she was confirmed dead, and that the remains had been deposited at the morgue.
The PPRO said that the receptionist was currently being interrogated to establish the circumstances surrounding the admission of the guests.
“The receptionist’s detention should not be seen as a determination of guilt. It is part of the investigation process,” he said.
The police spokesperson said that the command had launched its dragnet to track down the male guest who reportedly checked into the hotel with the deceased.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Ordue, had directed full investigation into the matter to ensure that justice prevailed.
“The commissioner has called for professional and objective investigation on the matter. We must establish the identity of the deceased.
“We must unravel the circumstances behind her death, and the roles, if any, of all persons connected with the incident,” he said.
Eitokpah urged members of the public to desist from speculation and circulation of unverified information capable of prejudicing the investigation process.
He urged members of the public with credible information that could assist in identifying the deceased or locating the male guest to contact the nearest police station.
