Women entrepreneurs operating in the exporting space have been charged to endeavour to meet regulatory requirements, compliance and competence in their businesses before attempting exporting their product.
Speaking at the 2026 SheExports conference held recently, the CEO, Made in Africa Brand Ambassador (MABA), Flora Mbeledeogu, said women entrepreneurs attempting to explore the export market must seek to understand necessary regulatory requirements.
According to her, “Anything goes in Nigeria, but abroad it’s a different ballgame. So, for you to talk of export, you personally as a Nigerian women entrepreneur, you have a lot of work to do locally first before the certification. You get it right first on your own part, and then the next level is to scale with certification.
“Proper certification is required. Go through Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services to get the phytosanitary analysis certifications and all that. And also we also have the HACCP, which certifies that the product is fit for consumption in any country.”
On her part, the CEO, Women in Agribusiness Trade and Export, Dr. Queen Okpa, said Nigeria must put its logistics infrastructure in order to enable Nigerian exporters to breakeven.
