The FIFA World Cup has long served as football’s biggest shop window, with standout performances often leading to blockbuster transfers and soaring market values. From James Rodríguez in 2014 to Enzo Fernández in 2022, the tournament has repeatedly changed careers.

At the 2026 World Cup, several players have once again used the global stage to boost their reputations.

According to Transfermarkt’s Ben Littlemore on the BBC World Service podcast More than the Score, clubs already scout these players extensively, but strong World Cup performances can significantly increase their value and fast-track moves to bigger clubs.

Sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel added that while major tournaments rarely produce unknown stars today, they can confirm a player’s readiness for the highest level.

Here are 10 players who could land major transfers after shining at the 2026 World Cup.

1. Orlando Gill (Paraguay)

The 25-year-old goalkeeper was one of the tournament’s biggest revelations, producing a series of match-winning saves to help Paraguay reach the knockout rounds. His commanding displays have reportedly attracted interest from clubs across Europe’s top leagues.

2. Vozinha (Cape Verde)

At 40, the veteran goalkeeper inspired Cape Verde to a historic knockout-stage appearance. While his age makes a major transfer unlikely, his heroics made him one of the tournament’s most memorable players.

3. Elijah Just (New Zealand)

Just enjoyed a breakout World Cup, scoring three goals, including a historic brace against Iran that made him the first New Zealand man to score twice in a World Cup match. His creativity, pressing and attacking quality have attracted growing interest from clubs abroad.

4. Tim Payne (New Zealand)

The experienced defender became one of the tournament’s biggest social media sensations after gaining millions of followers during the competition. While his online popularity overshadowed his performances, Payne also delivered dependable displays for New Zealand.

5. Sidny Lopes Cabral (Cape Verde)

Cabral impressed with fearless performances against elite opposition, showcasing his dribbling ability, composure and attacking threat. His displays have reportedly put him on the radar of clubs looking for emerging talent.

6. Julian Quiñones (Mexico)

The prolific winger enhanced his reputation by scoring four goals in five World Cup matches after winning the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot with Al-Qadsiah last season. Despite recently signing a new contract, the 29-year-old is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League.

7. Antonio Nusa (Norway)

While Erling Haaland grabbed most of the headlines, Nusa also impressed with his explosive performances on Norway’s left flank. Tottenham are reportedly preparing an offer for the RB Leipzig winger, while Arsenal are also monitoring the 21-year-old.

8. Ayyoub Bouaddi (Morocco)

The 18-year-old Lille midfielder showcased remarkable composure throughout Morocco’s campaign, particularly against Brazil. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all reportedly interested in signing one of Europe’s brightest young midfield prospects.

9. Yan Diomande (Ivory Coast)

Although he finished the tournament with one assist and no goals, the RB Leipzig winger caught the eye with his pace and dribbling ability. Liverpool have been linked with the 19-year-old, while Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly pushing to sign him.

10. Johan Manzambi (Switzerland)

Manzambi scored three goals and provided two assists before a knee injury ended his tournament early. The 20-year-old midfielder is now reportedly close to joining Aston Villa ahead of Newcastle United after his impressive World Cup displays further boosted his value.
