World Cup 2026: Germany break record held by Brazil

Germany on Sunday created history by breaking Brazil’s goals record after thrashing Curacao 7-1 in their World Cup opener.

Kai Havertz’s second goal and the final one of the match took Germany to 239 goals in the history of the World Cup tournament.

Havertz scored a brace, as Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Denis Undav also scored one goal each.

Meanwhile, Brazil had played a 1-1 draw with Morocco on Saturday.

Vinicius’ lone goal against Morocco took the Seleção’s tally to 238 goals in the history of the World Cup.

This means that Germany is now one goal ahead of Brazil in World Cup history.

Brazil is likely to overtake Germany when they face Haiti in a Group C clash on Friday, while Germany will take on the Ivory Coast on Saturday.
