World Cup 2026: Why we eliminated Netherlands – Morocco coach, Mohamed Ouahbi

Daily Post about 3 hours 1 mins read

Morocco coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, has explained why his team eliminated The Netherlands from the World Cup Round of 32 stage.

Ouahbi watched as Morocco defeated the Dutch via penalty shoot-out today following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

Ismael Saibari converted the winning spot kick for Morocco after goalkeeper Yassine Bounou ‌had saved Crysencio Summerville’s attempt.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Ouahbi said that Morocco controlled the match, adding that they had more possession and shots.

“Morocco has gained everybody’s respect now,” Ouahbi ‌said, adding: “It’s not because of what we’ve said. We’ve now shown it.

“We completely dominated a Netherlands team. We had 70% possession, more shots and more expected goals. We controlled the match.

“We wanted to ‌stay calm, play our game and believe that if it went to penalties, we had an exceptional goalkeeper. We didn’t turn the match into a chaotic battle. We controlled it.”

Morocco will now face World Cup co-host nation, Canada in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
