World Cup: Messi named greatest player in history after Spain beat Argentina

Daily Post about 7 hours 1 mins read

Former Real Madrid winger, Angel Di Maria, has named Lionel Messi as the greatest player in the history of football after Argentina’s 2026 World Cup final defeat to Spain.

Messi led Argentina as Spain won 1-0 in the World Cup final held in New Jersey, at the weekend.

Speaking about his fellow countryman, Di Maria also thanked the Inter Miami forward for his contributions to Argentine football.

The former Manchester United star said (as per Albiceleste Talk), “Thank you for being Argentine. Thank you for carrying our flag to the very top of the world.

“Thank you for being an example, both as a player and as a person. You are the greatest in history. You are eternal.”

Di Maria played alongside Messi for several years with the Argentina national team, and the pair won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
