World Cup: ‘Ridiculous’ – Ian Wright slams FIFA over final decision

Former Arsenal and England striker, Ian Wright, has criticized FIFA for the ‘absurd’ state of the World Cup final pitch.

This follows Spain’s victory over Argentina at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, crowning them as world champions.

Spain, the European champions, controlled the final on Sunday but could not secure a goal in regular time against an Argentina team that failed to register a single shot.

Spain’s hopes of winning the World Cup for the second time were enhanced in injury time when Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card and was sent off.

Although Argentina managed to hold off Spain during the first half of extra time, Ferran Torres eventually broke through their defense in the 106th minute.

With only ten players, Argentina could not mount a comeback and fell short in their attempt to achieve back-to-back World Cup titles.

The state of the pitch became a significant topic on social media, with Arsenal icon Wright attributing the lackluster start of the match to the ‘poor’ playing surface.

Wright remarked on ITV, “I’ve got to say for a World Cup final, this pitch is ridiculous. They shouldn’t be on it.”
