Spain head coach, Luis de la Fuente, has showered high praise on midfielder, Dani Olmo following his crucial contribution to their victory against France.
De La Fuente referred to Olmo as a ‘spectacular footballer’ and commended his adaptability on the field.
Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring for La Roja with a penalty in the 22nd minute, while defender Pedro Porro increased Spain’s advantage in the second half after a one-two play with Olmo.
“He is a spectacular footballer with a versatile position. He plays box-to-box and can occupy various roles, particularly between the lines as a midfielder. His development aligns closely with the national team,” De la Fuente remarked after the match.
“He performs better with these players around him, allowing him to showcase his brilliance. This is a shared understanding. I value his abilities highly, but also the team dynamic. He is a genius in his role.”
De la Fuente also praised Rodri’s performance, commenting on the Manchester City midfielder, “I mentioned long ago that questioning him is an insult to intelligence. Time has proven us correct. He is the perfect player for our football philosophy.
“This concept, this model, is specifically designed for these players, as we have a profound understanding of what they can contribute and enhance within this framework. They deserve the credit.
“Rodri serves as the backbone. In terms of interpreting defensive football, he possesses excellent touches, positioning, and ball recovery skills; he is a vital player for our football philosophy. We are fortunate to have such a talent.”
Spain is set to compete against either England or Argentina in the final as they aim to secure the title for a second time.
