Yobe CP urges police officers to uphold professionalism ahead of 2027 elections

Daily Post about 4 hours 2 mins read

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has called on senior officers to uphold professionalism in their operations.

The Commissioner gave the charge during a strategic security meeting with the command’s management team, tactical commanders and Divisional Police Officers at the Police Headquarters in Damaturu.

According to a statement by the command, the meeting was aimed at implementing decisions reached at the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) 2026, recently held in Imo State.

CP Jibrin commended his officers for their professional conduct during the last local government elections in Yobe State and charged them to sustain the same standard of discipline as preparations for the 2027 general elections commence.

He reminded the officers that all election-related duties must be carried out in accordance with the Electoral Act and other extant laws guiding police operations.

On the ongoing harvest season, the Commissioner expressed concern over recurring farmer-herder clashes in parts of the state.

He directed DPOs to adopt proactive measures through intelligence-led policing and community engagement to prevent such conflicts from escalating.

He also cautioned officers against bias and the use of excessive force when handling communal disputes.

CP Jibrin stressed the need for commanders to communicate the new operational directives to officers and men under their supervision for effective implementation.

The statement added that the meeting ended with an interactive session during which officers highlighted field challenges and received operational guidance aimed at improving security service delivery across the state.
