The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 240 suspects and secured 198 convictions in various criminal cases between July and September 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has said.
Jibrin disclosed this on Tuesday in Damaturu while briefing journalists on the command’s operational activities in the state.
According to him, the command recorded 145 criminal cases during the period, comprising 16 murder cases, nine rape cases, one kidnapping case, two extortion cases, five armed robbery cases and 112 other offences.
Giving a breakdown of the cases, the commissioner said 198 resulted in convictions, while two ended in acquittals.
He added that 26 cases were before the courts, 10 remained under investigation and four were awaiting legal advice.
“These gains reflect our resolve to both detain offenders and ensure prosecution via thorough probes and firm action,” Jibrin said.
The commissioner also disclosed that police operatives arrested 171 suspected narcotics vendors and consumers during operations targeting criminal hideouts and drug-related activities.
He said the operations also led to the recovery of illicit narcotics, prohibited items and dangerous weapons.
Jibrin said police operatives in Fika subdued a suspect during a shootout, while another suspect was arrested in a separate operation.
He further disclosed that the command intercepted a suspect who allegedly travelled from Maiduguri with the intention of vandalising vehicles.
On financial crimes, Jibrin said one suspect was arrested over alleged fraud and misappropriation involving N77 million.
He added that another suspect was detained for allegedly obtaining money and goods through fraudulent bank transfer alerts.
The CP also disclosed that two suspects were arrested through technical intelligence over the alleged extortion of N630,000 from two victims under duress.
According to him, the suspects confessed during interrogation.
On cases involving vulnerable persons, Jibrin said the command had made progress in investigations into the alleged kidnapping of juveniles and culpable homicide.
He said suspects linked to the cases had been apprehended and charged to court, while detectives were concluding investigations for prosecution.
Meanwhile, the commissioner presented a N8.7 million welfare support cheque to families of fallen police officers on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force and the Yobe State Police Command.
He said the gesture was part of efforts to support families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Jibrin reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, professionalism, swift response to crime and effective collaboration with communities.
The briefing ended with the display of suspects and recovered exhibits before the commissioner took questions from journalists.
