Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has criticised Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his claim that soldiers are planning to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
DAILY POST reports that Davido, in a post on his official X handle on Saturday morning, alleged that he had been reliably informed that soldiers would stop him from entering the state to rally support for his uncle and incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
The singer insisted that such a move would not happen, stressing that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time,” he wrote.
Reacting, Ahmad described Davido’s claim as “dramatic,” noting that security agencies had already announced restrictions on movement across the state as part of measures to ensure a peaceful election.
He said the restriction was expected to remain in place from midnight until 6pm on Saturday, adding that such measures were not peculiar to Osun.
“You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun.
“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” Ahmad wrote.
