A youth leader identified as Sunday Ogoh has been killed after suspected gunmen carried out another deadly attack on Ondo community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The latest incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, less than 48 hours after 18 residents were reportedly killed in the nearby Otukpo-Nobi community, also within Otukpo LGA.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community at about 5 a.m., opening fire indiscriminately.
The assault claimed the life of Ogoh, while another resident sustained fatal injuries.
A local resident, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the renewed violence has forced many people to abandon their homes out of fear.
Confirming the incident, Otukpo Local Government Chairman, Maxwell Ogiri, said security operatives responded quickly and successfully repelled the attackers, although one resident was killed before they regained control of the situation.
He also revealed that security agencies have commenced a manhunt to track down those responsible for the attack.
The Benue State Police Command also confirmed the development.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, said security operatives have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
