Youths raise alarm over alleged ‘Renewed Hope’ govt registration in Taraba community

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Concerned youths in Takum Local Government Council of Taraba State have called on the state government to investigate alleged illegal activities involving the collection of money from residents under the guise of a government registration exercise.

According to a report submitted to the state  governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, unidentified individuals have reportedly been collecting a fee of N1,000 from elderly persons and youths in several communities within the local government.

The individuals allegedly claim that the payment is required for registration into a federal government programme known as “Renewed Hope.”

The youths stated that the practice has occurred repeatedly and is not the first time residents have encountered such incidents in the area and its surrounding communities.

In a protest letter signed by Christopher Tanimu, the youths expressed concern that the alleged activities are causing fear, financial losses, and distress among residents, particularly vulnerable members of the community.

They appealed to the state government to launch an urgent investigation into the matter and take necessary measures to protect affected citizens from further exploitation.

“We are bringing this matter to your attention because we believe you are a listening governor and we trust your administration,” the statement read.

The youths also expressed their goodwill toward the state and its leadership, praying for peace and progress in Takum, Taraba State, and Nigeria as a whole.
