Zamfara govt bans farming in school premises, issues 30-day quit notice to unauthorised occupants

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Zamfara State Government has banned all forms of farming within school premises across the state, declaring that school grounds are meant for learning and not agricultural or commercial activities.

The directive was announced on Monday by the State Overseer Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abdulmalik Garba Gajam, during a press briefing in Gusau, where he outlined new policy measures aimed at strengthening the education sector.

Gajam said the reforms are part of efforts to reposition education in the state, stressing that “the era of bureaucracy is over in education.”

He directed that farming activities within school compounds must cease immediately except where they are carried out strictly for educational purposes.

“Farming activities within school premises are hereby banned, except for strictly educational purposes. Principals, head teachers and staff are hereby directed to comply in order to maintain a conducive learning environment,” he said.

The commissioner also announced a 30-day ultimatum for unauthorised occupants of teachers’ quarters across the state to vacate the facilities.

He instructed principals and school administrators to ensure full compliance with the directive, emphasising that the quarters are designated exclusively for teachers and are intended to support effective service delivery in schools.

According to Gajam, the measures form part of the government’s broader efforts to improve the management of educational institutions and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
