Zamfara not an embodiment of Sharia, insecurity – Gov Dauda Lawal

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, on Monday said his administration is working towards changing the perception that the state is an embodiment of Sharia and insecurity.

Lawal said families used to pray for members traveling to Zamfara State but that has changed.

The governor disclosed this while addressing journalists in Gusau, the state capital.

According to Lawal: “The perception of Zamfara as Sharia and insecurity is wrong and it takes a while to change that perception and that is exactly what we are trying to do at the moment.

“Two things when you speak about Zamfara State, Sharia State and insecurity. I’m happy when you said if a family is coming to Zamfara the kind of prayers they would hold from the family is beyond imagination but I’m happy you are here and based on the perception you have had in the past and reality on the ground, how do you see Zamfara?

“I’m sure that has changed your perception and that is exactly what I’m trying to do, to tell people that there are good people in Zamfara State, there is freedom of religion in Zamfara State.

“You have a lot of people from the South West, in fact, if you go to the Sabon Gari area, it’s purely dominated by Yorubas. If you go to Tudun Wada, it’s purely dominated by Igbos.

“So as far as Sharia is concerned there is nothing different from the way we do things, it’s the way it was pronounced and projected to the people.”
