Zamfara: Troops kill terrorist, arrest eight suspects, recover motorcycles, military gear

Daily Post about 4 hours 2 mins read

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised a suspected terrorist, arrested eight suspected bandits and recovered motorcycles, communication equipment and other items during separate operations across Zamfara State.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, on June 8, 2026.

According to the statement, troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on June 5 conducted a fighting patrol to Birnin Tsaba and Tsanu villages in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area where they encountered terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village.

The military said a firefight ensued, resulting in the death of one suspected terrorist, while seven motorcycles were recovered from the scene.

The statement added that troops also responded to a terrorist attack at Anguwar Sarkin Musulmi village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area on June 6.

According to preliminary findings, the attackers allegedly carted away residents’ belongings before troops arrived at the community.

“The incident further highlights the growing desperation of terrorist elements whose sources of sustenance and logistics have continued to come under pressure from sustained military operations,” the statement said.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA also disclosed that troops responded to reports of an attack on commuters along the Kaura Namoda–Zurmi Road.

Investigations revealed that terrorists ambushed two civilian vehicles between Jabanda and Dauran villages in Zurmi Local Government Area.

Troops subsequently secured the area, evacuated injured victims for medical treatment and commenced efforts to track the attackers and rescue any abducted passengers.

In another operation carried out on June 6, troops conducting a fighting patrol to Tudun Wada and Dan Gulbi communities in Maru Local Government Area arrested eight suspected bandits at Tudun Wada.

The military said items recovered from the suspects included seven motorcycles, communication gadgets, mobile phones, power banks and military-style uniforms.

A structure allegedly used by the suspects was also destroyed during the operation.

The statement further disclosed that troops arrested a suspected recipient of recently intercepted ammunition at Tupa village in Shinkafi Local Government Area on June 5 following intelligence-led operations.

“The suspect is in custody and assisting ongoing investigations,” the statement added.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining military operations against terrorists and bandits across the North-West and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
