2027 governorship election.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The list, published on INEC’s portal, contained 12 governorship candidates and their running mates representing different political parties in the state, but excluded Hon and his running mate.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The omission reportedly threw SDP members and supporters into confusion, raising concerns about the absence of their candidate from the electoral commission’s official list.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Hon, who described the development as an error, expressed confidence that INEC would correct the omission.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He urged his supporters and party members to remain the 2027 fiscal year.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative, under the World Bank-assisted HOPE Governance Programme (HOPE-GOV), will involve a technical workshop for government officials from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to improve budget planning, resource allocation, implementation and accountability.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop, scheduled to hold in Abuja from October 12 to November 4, 2026, is part of efforts to strengthen governance, institutional capacity and accountability in the delivery of essential public services.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joe Mutah, Communications Officer of the HOPE-GOV Programme, announced the workshop in a statement on Sunday, saying participants would be trained to align their 2027 budgets with sectoral priorities and operational plans for basic education and primary healthcare.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the exercise was expected to help ensure that government spending translated more effectively into improved service delivery.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The engagement will be conducted in four batches, with participating states expected to identify specific budgeting challenges and develop practical solutions to improve the credibility, quality and implementation of their financial plans.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A major focus will be aligning Primary Healthcare Annual Operational Plans (AOPs), Basic Education Annual Consolidated Workplans (ACWPs) and 2027 budgets with the requirements of Disbursement Linked Indicator 2 (DLI 2) under the HOPE-GOV Programme.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme seeks to strengthen the link between government plans, budgetary allocations and actual service delivery while improving the capacity of state institutions to manage public resources efficiently.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Areas to be covered include the application of the National Chart of Accounts, programme-based budgeting, project prioritisation and costing, mapping and geo-tagging, and aligning sectoral plans with approved budget ceilings.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These measures are expected to help states improve expenditure planning, identify priority projects and establish clearer links between allocated funds and intended outcomes in schools and primary healthcare facilities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials to develop state-specific solutions\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop will bring together Permanent Secretaries responsible for Budget and Planning, Executive Secretaries of State Primary Health Care Development Agencies, and chairmen and executive secretaries of State Universal Basic Education Boards.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other participants will include directors of budget, budget officers responsible for education and primary healthcare, and HOPE-GOV state focal persons.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the technical training, participants will examine state-specific challenges affecting budget preparation and implementation, with a view to developing practical solutions to identified gaps.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The emphasis on implementation is intended to strengthen not only the preparation of sectoral budgets but also their execution and accountability.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to address governance constraints affecting the delivery Refinery-backed MRS and other Nigerian filling stations have increased their retail prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly known as petrol.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>A market survey by DAILY POST on Sunday showed that filling stations in Abuja and environs raised petrol prices to N1,409 per litre from N1,370.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>This means that MRS filling stations increased their petrol pump price by N39 per litre over the weekend.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The new price has been implemented at MRS outlets in Kubwa, Katampe, Gwarimpa and other areas of Abuja.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Similarly, Ranoil and AA Rano raised petrol prices across their outlets by N10 per litre to N1,410 from N1,400.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The development comes as the Federal Government, through the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, proposed a petrol price discount to N1,350 per litre at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, filling stations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>However, fuel retailers and marketers have urged the Federal Government to extend the fuel price discount initiative to other filling stations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Recall that petrol prices had sustained a downward trend in the previous week.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>DAILY POST reports that Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate, WTI, crude traded at $104 and $91 per barrel, respectively.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Ca Don’t let them deceive you. What the government did was a return of fuel subsidy.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“With their lies of NNPC discount, it is still a subsidy. Whenever you forfeit your profit, you have subsidised the product as an incentive. Somebody made a video to say that N60 cannot be a subsidy. Even if it is N10, as long as it is a forfeit of your profit, it’s a form of subsidy.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“You can put subsidies in many ways to gain market advantage.
