ASUU, in three Lagos State-owned universities have suspended their industrial action and are set to return to classrooms with immediate effect.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development has brought relief to students and parents affected by the disruption of academic activities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The affected institutions are Lagos State University, LASU, Lagos State University of Education, LASUED, and Lagos State University of Science and Technology, LASUSTECH.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The unions announced the suspension on Friday, while expressing appreciation to the media, civil society organisations, CSOs, traditional rulers, students, parents and other stakeholders for their support throughout the negotiations. It said the collective efforts of these groups contributed significantly to the negotiation process, which centred on improved staff welfare and the implementation of outstanding academic agreements.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement jointly issued by Olusegun Babalola, Coordinator, Steering Committee, ASUU-LASU; Grace Abimbola, Acting Chairman, ASUU-LASUED; and Murisiku Onigemo, Chairman, ASUU-LASUTECH, the unions said: “Following the official suspension of our industrial action today, the leadership and entire membership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in Lagos State-owned universities wish to express our profound gratitude to the general public, institutional leaders, and key stakeholders who stood firmly by us throughout the negotiation process.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Our struggle for improved staff welfare and the implementation of vital academic agreements has reached a significant milestone, largely due to the collective support of well-meaning individuals and organisations. The door for the ‘Bovi: Guilty as Charged’ finale opens 6pm, show starts 7pm and ends 10pm.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Bovi who has established his brand with several productions including Bovi: Man on Fire and Bovi: Naughty by Nature have become a leading force in Nigeria comedy entertainment, attracting audiences both at home and abroad. ‘Bovi: Guilty as Charged’ is the latest chapter in the journey and brings him back before Nigerian audiences after the tours sold-out dates abroad. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Speaking about the upcoming event recently, Bovi said, “It’s Guilty as Charged” because like every show I do there’s always a running title that goes with it. It’s like an album. So, in every album there’s one song, a music that usually is the tile. So, most of the jokes are themed and majority of them basically is just like pointing accusatory finger.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The award-winning comedian, actor and writer, reflects on the originality of his material saying, “As for my material, I’m just being me, trying to evolve over the years, where I can evolve. I have never taken my audience for granted, that’s what I can assure you. And I always put my best foot forward because people are paying money for this thing. And I need to give them value for their money.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>However, the comedian noted that tickets sales alone don’t sustain a show like his. “I mean if we have 10,000 or 20,000 capacity arenas tickets sales would do the magic. But we don’t have 20,000 capacity arenas. That’s why we are grateful to sponsors that come on board, both private and corporate.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He acknowledged comedy as “actually very unique. So, two people might tell similar joke but stays unique to them.” What should audience expect? “Everything I’m going to talk about; everything you can think of that’s being happening in the last one year. Because I haven’t done the show in three years now, so everything is on the table. One thing about comedy is that it has to be relatable.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>When asked why he rarely features other A-list Nigerian comedians on his headline shows, Bovi described himself as a creative ‘puritan’. He then shares his specific vision for curating his personal storytelling projects and stated that if he does bring on other talents, they must be properly commercialised and paid for their craft. He however promises one A-list guest appearance to make a surprise.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Bovi, who by 2028 would mark 20 years as a comedian, seized the occasion to clarify perception around his precursor show, ‘Bovi: Man on Fire’, over ‘Bovi: Guilty as Charged’. ‘Man on Fire was a name of group of shows I did, it was never my name. The last time I did ‘Man on Fire’ was 2019. Because my first shows were called Man on Fire, that’s why it has stuck. And because it sounds like a name that was attributed to me, so it’s like an alliance. In every album, there’s one song in music that usually is the title of the album. So most of the jokes are themed, and the majority of them are pointing accusing fingers.
