Even before the dust is settled from Monday night’s celebration of the unveiling of Essa Faal at State House, the governing National People’s Party (NPP) has been rocked by mass resignations from among its grassroots officials across many constituencies in the country.
Yesterday, The Standard confirmed that a total of 20 officials have handed out their resignations to join the resurgent opposition National Democratic Party of leader Kebba Madi Bojang, a former youth president of the NPP.
As reported by Gambia Media TV and confirmed by the NDP sources, the resignation letters are dated August 22, addressed to respective NPP constituency and regional executives.
In their letters, the individuals including the National Organising Secretary of the NPP Women’s Wing Fatou Bojang said they were only in the NPP because of Kebba Madi Boajng who was then youth leader of the party, and now that Bojang has formed his own party, they have decided to follow him.
Among officials who dumped the NPP for NDP include coordinators, women’s wing officials, constituency executive members and grassroots organisers.
They are: Ebrima Jadama – youth coordinator- Busumbala Constituency who doubles as PRO for Busumbala Constituency and treasurer in the West Coast regional youth wing; Ebrima Solo Sanyang – auditor general, CRR South regional executive; Fatou Jatta Konateh – 2nd deputy female regional youth coordinator, WCR; Saikou Jawla – youth coordinator, Sandu Constituency; Mariama Sowe – female youth coordinator, Brikama South Constituency; Fatou Drammeh – female youth coordinator, Central Baddibu; Mariama Fatty – female youth coordinator, Basse; Musa Njie –social secretary, Busumbala Constituency executive; Mba Karamo Chatty/Fatty –deputy treasurer, Banjulinding Ward ; Mariama Barrow – deputy chairperson, Barrow Kunda Support Group; Lamin Sey – Co-opted member, Foni Jarrol constituency executive; Rohey Camara – deputy women mobiliser, Busumbala; Fatou Bintou Camara – grassroots organiser, Busumbala; Kaddy Jallow –grassroots organiser, Campassa, Foni Jarrol District; Aja Nenneh Bojang-female youth coordinator Brikama North; Fatou Saidy-female youth coordinator for Kembujeng Ward; Mariam Bojang- female youth coordinator for Brikama Misira; Isatou Sabally- deputy female youth coordinator for Brikama Misira and Fatou Janka- female youth coordinator for Niani District, CRR North. Most of the resignation letters are already published on social media pages.
There has not been any reaction so far from the NPP who are still celebrating their latest ‘big catch’ Essa Faal.
