2026 World Cup: Trump reveals why England lost to Argentina in semi-final

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

United States president, Donald Trump, has taken a swipe at what he believes were defensive tactics from England manager, Thomas Tuchel, as they lost 2-1 to England in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup.

The Three Lions took the lead through Anthony Gordon’s goal in the second half.

But the current holders fought back to equalize in the 85th minute, after Enzo Fernandez found space outside the box to shoot.

Lautaro Martinez then headed in the winner in the 92nd minute.

Trump has now blamed Tuchel for making his players defend a one-goal lead in the game.

“You have a great player in England who I played golf with. Harry (Kane). I think they perhaps made a mistake when they made him a defensive player,” Trump said, speaking at FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York.

“What do I know? They took their best player and then put him on defense. What do I know about coaching?”
